President's Report

Greetings Members & Industry Partners of IREM 92:

Please take a few minutes to read through this e-newsletter to catch up on all the events and news happenings within Chapter 92.  This is a bi-monthly publication.

Greetings City of Champions! That’s right, for the first time since I was born to Egyptian Siamese twins and later sold to the highest bidder at an auction for leatherback sea turtles, DC can officially wield the “City of Champions” title.  But lest you get too giddy and boastful, just remember that my home city of Boston still has 9 more championships since 2001 ???? And now that you’ve snapped back to reality, I can give you an IREM update, which I’m sure you’ve been waiting for with great anticipation and exuberance.

In June, the chapter gathered for a private tour of Pike & Rose, generously hosted by Federal Realty and Pike & Rose’s GM.  There we got to learn about the history of Pike & Rose – from the early planning stages, to the completed construction to date and future development, to the leasing and marketing strategies, to operations and financial performance – and see several of the buildings.  We also got to play at their new beach, although I was really hoping someone would mistake the large ocean wall for a real swimmable body of water and attempt to run into it.  Anyways, if you’re following us on Instagram (shameless marketing plug! Follow us at @irem_92_md), you would have seen several stories and posts about the event.  Seriously, follow us now!

Later in the month a handful of your executive officers and future chapter leaders traveled to the true City of Champions, Boston, to meet with the other chapter leaders of Region 1, 2 & 3.  There we shared ideas on education, relevant and trendy industry content, social media strategies, community outreach, and ate copious amounts of lobstah.

Overall, it was a very constructive few days – and I only got about 3 death stares from our Region 3 VP, Toni Harris, CPM, ARM, which I consider a resounding (or, as the locals in Boston say, a “wicked good”) success. A major topic of discussion during this 2 day conference was around Millennials.  Check out the 10 things that Millennials are looking for in an employer:

On September 11th we will come back together again for one of our most popular annual events – our Crab Feast at May’s Seafood Restaurant in Frederick, MD.  There we will stuff our faces with bottomless crabs, hush puppies, and shrimp.  We will also watch, studiously and with great fanfare, the connoisseur of crabs – the one and only Mike Matthai – devour an entire bucket of crabs.   I imagine it’s the same feeling Pope Julius had watching Michaelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel.  Registration Info to come next week - check your inbox!

The following week, on Friday, September 21st, we will hold our 16th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Bretton Woods.  Proceeds from this event will benefit The Fisher House at Walter Reed Medical Center.  We want to thank O’Connor Plumbing for once again being our Tournament Sponsor.  ONLY 1 SPONSORSHIP REMAINS AVAILABLE - HURRY TO CLAIM YOUR SPOT! (see below)

And don’t worry if your game isn’t up to par, we have copious prizes that reward golf futility! I should know since I tend to win these each year.  Happy Gilmore swing…Lumber Jack Award for spending more time in the woods than on the course…yea, clearly you don’t have to be a pro.  This tournament is all about having fun, networking, going home with some great prizes and gifts and maybe even a fun superlative or two as well.

In October, we will hold our 7th Annual MEGA Meeting. This joint chapter event is co-hosted with IREM DC Chapter 8 and NOVA Chapter 77. This year, we are excited to welcome Shannon Huffman Polson as our Keynote Speaker.  See below for all the details on this fantastic event and register early.  Special Group Pricing available for those sending 9+ colleagues from their company for an afternoon of training, team-building and networking.

Have a fun, safe, and enjoyable summer and please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] if I can be of any service to you.

Adam Santos, CPM®
2018 Chapter President

Private Offerings:

Spread the word that Private Offering Courses are available for your company - groups of 10 or more.  This means an instructor comes to your site and holds a class for just your company's employees.  The idea is to get a group of people to "fast track" their way to a CPM, ARM, or ACoM designation.  The more people in the class, the lower the price per person.  For more information on this excellent opportunity, contact the Region 3 Education office at 301.948.6234 or download the Private Offerings Brochure here!

Online Self-Paced Courses:

For those interested in taking courses at their own pace, IREM offers many online self-paced courses.  Open new doors for yourself with the help of IREM education.  With our online and classroom courses, you'll give yourself a leg up in the constantly evolving world of real estate management.

Pay Your 2018 National & Chapter Dues

Your IREM Membership is an investment in yourself and your career.  Make sure you're taking full advantage of the benefits by renewing your membership.

You will receive one invoice coming from IREM Headquarters.  This eliminates the need to process separate payments for National dues and Chapter 92 local dues.  One payment can be made to IREM HQ and the Chapter portion will be electronically transferred to Chapter 92.  Also included on this invoice for CPM members are your NAR Affiliate dues.  These affiliate dues must be paid in order to maintain your CPM designation.

PAY YOUR DUES to ensure you don't miss out on even one day of membership.
