President's Report

Greetings Members & Industry Partners of IREM 92:

Please take a few minutes to read through this e-newsletter to catch up on all the events and news happenings within Chapter 92.  This is a bi-monthly publication.

I hope everyone had a memorable holiday weekend and some fun in the sun! As we head into the mid-year, many will begin to assess their progression towards achieving goals set for the year. As it relates to your career in real estate management, whether it is job advancement, network expansion or educational enrichment I would like to remind you IREM can provide great benefits in meeting your goals. I encourage you all to seek involvement in the many committees we have and support their initiatives.

In April, Chapter Leaders attended the IREM Northeast Regional Conference held right in our backyard at the National Harbor.  This regional event was held April 10-12 and included chapter leaders from the entire Northeast.  It was a jam-packed two days of leadership training, education and a little fun too!

On April 24th, West-Central MD Chapter 92 honored its many distinguished Past Presidents at a private dinner event at Ruth's Chris in Downtown Crown. This Dinner is a chance for current Board Members to interact with the past Presidents and learn from their experience within the chapter. It’s a great time of reflection for many but it also fosters great energy within the current board to carry on the chapter’s mission. We truly appreciate all of our Past Presidents contributions to the Chapter over the years and their continued support going forward.  During this event, we welcomed and heard an IREM update from our Regional Vice President, Toni Harris, CPM, ARM.  We were also pleased to welcome Kara Permisohn and Susie Sanin from Minkoff Company as our guests at this event.  Minkoff Company was awarded the Industry Partner of the Year Award at our November 2018 Awards Dinner.  Here are a few highlights from this event:

Thank you to all chapter members who made submissions to IREM's Income/Expense Analysis Program.  In addition to the FREE reports that all who submitted will receive, Chapter 92 held our own incentive program.  The chapter member with the most contributions received an additional $100 Gift Certificate, and the chapter members with the second and third most received $50 Gift Certificates respectively.  Congrats to these members and thank you to all who participated:

  1. Peggy Hernandez - 1st Place
  2. Jim Crawford, CPM - 2nd Place
  3. Jesse Martinez, CPM - 3rd Place

On Friday May 10th, we gathered together with Chapters 8 and 77 for our Annual Charity Gala which was held at Congressional Country Club. As always the band was remarkable, the food was delicious, everyone was in their best dress, and the night was something to behold. We had the privilege of hearing testimony from one of the camps cancer survivors. This young man displayed a sense of inner strength beyond explanation and has decided to return to the camp as a counselor to help other children navigate their fight with cancer. With all proceeds from the Gala once again benefitting SPECIAL LOVE FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER, our chapters were able to donate $80,000 by the end of the evening to this magnificent cause! I would like to personally thank every sponsor and each individual that has donated over the years. Your contributions have made a tremendous impact on countless lives affected by cancer.  See a full recap and pictures from this event in the article below.

On June 13th, we’re hosting a great seminar on team building and maximizing the full potential of your team. This meeting will be held at Lakewood Country Club. The event starts at 3:00pm and the presentation will be followed by a networking happy hour. This presentation will be highly beneficial whether you’re a high level supervisor or a low level manager looking to develop your skillset in order to elevate within your firm. If you have not done so already please register to attend this meeting.

June General Membership Meeting: Building Teams - Elevate your "b" Players to "A" Players

Thursday, June 13, 2019

3:00PM Registration
3:30PM Guest Speaker - Jason Dixon of Neuberger & Co.
4:30 - 6:00PM Networking Happy Hour

Often times we want to maximize either our potential, or our team's potential in their roles but don't know the specific steps or actions it takes to accomplish that mission.  Do you feel like you are operating at a "B" level but want to operate at an "A" level?  As leaders, do you feel you have far too many "B or C" players on your team but not enough "A" players?

In this session we will establish the primary functions of "A" players, the specific attributes that support the success of the role we play, and develop a score card that will act as a blueprint for elevating a team member or yourself to the highest level of competency within your role.  We will examine the behaviors, attitudes, and skill sets of "A" players and build the template for success.

Come to this session to learn how to take yourself or your team to the next level.  After the one-hour presentation, stay for a summertime networking happy hour on the beautiful patio at Lakewood Country Club!

Community Involvement Update

IREM 92 is partnering with The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless (MCCH) on a School Supply Drive to help formerly homeless children in Montgomery County prepare for the 2019-2020 school year.

Success in school is critical to breaking the inter-generational cycle of poverty.  The Community Involvement Committee is using $500 of budgeted funds to purchase backpacks and school supplies.  We need YOUR HELP to contribute extra supplies... paper, pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks, etc.   Please bring these donations with you to our June 13th general membership meeting at Lakewood Country club.

Let's help get these students on the right track for the upcoming school year!

Trip to the Zoo!

IREM 92 was proud to help subsidize a field trip on May 29th for 83 Kindergarten students from Goshen Elementary School to go to the Catoctin Zoo in Frederick, MD. Looks like these little guys had a great day and we were happy to purchase the entry tickets for each one of them to have a day of hands-on education and fun!

Have an idea for an upcoming community involvement project or want to serve on this committee??

Private Offerings:

Spread the word that Private Offering Courses are available for your company - groups of 10 or more.  This means an instructor comes to your site and holds a class for just your company's employees.  The idea is to get a group of people to "fast track" their way to a CPM, ARM, or ACoM designation.  The more people in the class, the lower the price per person.  For more information on this excellent opportunity, contact the Region 3 Education office at 301.948.6234 or click here for more information.

Online Self-Paced Courses:

For those interested in taking courses at their own pace, IREM offers many online self-paced courses.  Open new doors for yourself with the help of IREM education.  With our online and classroom courses, you'll give yourself a leg up in the constantly evolving world of real estate management.
