Greetings Members & Industry Partners of IREM 92:
Please take a few minutes to read through this e-newsletter to catch up on all the events and news happenings within Chapter 92. This is a bi-monthly publication.
The pools are opening, the grills are gassed up, the aroma of barbeques have begun to percolate the pollen-saturated air, and gas prices are rapidly soaring. Guess what that means?! Winter is coming! Just kidding, winter is officially OVER and you can finally rejoice alongside Game of Thrones fans. That’s right, summer is just about here folks and what better way to kick things off than Memorial Day weekend!
A lot has happened since our last newsletter in March, so let me fill you in on current World and IREM events. In World news, Kim Jun Un decided to leave K-town and develop some new bromances. Time will tell if those bromances turn into the new frat pack or if Jun Un recedes into his bunker and goes full Dr. Evil on us. Hopefully the former! But if the latter, we now have approximately 8,351 superheroes that can save the day thanks to Marvel. I don’t know about you, but I’m putting my $ on Deadpool, provided The Rock hasn’t already saved humankind. That about summarizes current world events. Things are otherwise pretty boring and normal in Washington. Someone needs to gin up a political scandal or investigation or something.
In IREM news, we held a very successful 2-part joint event with Chapter 8 in April. The first part of the event was a must-attend informational meeting for IREM candidates pursuing one of IREM’s coveted credentials. The second part was a wildly interactive industry resource exchange and networking event that included a game of BINGO and an IREM-inspired Family Feud game show pitting a handful of industry partners vs. property managers, which the industry partners “won”. Although it’s rumored that the industry partners were handed the answers beforehand like they were Hillary Clinton, we were unable to substantiate these rumors due to Rob (acting as the game show host) whitewashing all his emails. Could this be the scandal that Washington needs to spice things up?!
April 19th was the Annual PM EXPO. Chapter 92 once again joined forces with Chapter 77 in NOVA and Chapter 8 in DC to present information on IREM at the Expo.
The following week in April, Chapter 92 honored its many distinguished Past Presidents at a private dinner event at Ruth's Chris in Downtown Crown. Our Annual past Presidents Dinner is a chance for current Board Members and Past Presidents of the Chapter to mix and mingle. We thank all of our Past Presidents for the work they have put into the Chapter over the years and their continued support going forward. Here are a few pictures from this event:
On Friday, May 18th we gathered together with Chapters 8 and 77 for one of our hallmark events - IREM’s Annual Charity Gala. Held at famed Congressional Country Club, this year marked the 13 year anniversary of this special night and what a night it was. Between the band, the food, the company, and hearing the testimonies of young but brave-beyond-their-years cancer patients, the evening was another one for the ages. With all proceeds from the Gala once again benefiting SPECIAL LOVE FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER, our chapters have now donated a combined $580,000+ to this wonderful charity over the years! Our collective donations, incredibly, have enabled the charity to fund approximately 1 out of every 10 patients. To everyone and every company that has donated over the years, I hope you know what a difference you’ve made to these children’s lives. It goes without saying, but thank you all for your kind generosity.
Oh, and while I’m doling out thank you’s, a special thank you to the band Millennium for playing Bon Jovi every year and letting our rockstar, Rob Collins, live out his childhood and adult dream as a professional singer. If there’s one thing that puts permanent smiles on the faces of these children (and of course our members), it’s Rob bringing the house down with a certifiably-gold rendition of Living’ On A Prayer. Even if he forgot half of the lyrics.
In June, we only have one event on the docket, but it’s sure to be a can’t-miss. We will be getting an exclusive private tour of Pike & Rose by the developer, Federal Realty, on June 14th from 3 – 6 pm. We’ll learn every fascinating detail of the development that has been in the works since the 90’s. Since the tour will cover everything from development, to design, to operations, to leasing/marketing, we would encourage you to extend invites to your in-house leasing folks, engineers, marketing, etc. And hey if we behave, they may even let us play in the sand of their new beach. Why sit in traffic for 4 hours trying to get to the Eastern Shore when you can lounge at Pike & Rose’s beach? If you haven’t registered yet, register here!
Hope to see you all soon and don’t forget to sign up for the upcoming events!
Please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if I can be of any service to you.

IREM 101 Meeting & Industry Resource Exchange Event
This special event was held on Tuesday, April 17th at Maggiano's Little Italy of Chevy Chase. We hold this meeting annually in conjunction with IREM Chapter 8. The first part of the meeting was a must-attend event for Candidate Members of the Chapter. "IREM 101" was presented by Lizzie Ortolano, Director, Customer & Member Services with IREM Headquarters in Chicago. Lizzie detailed the CPM requirements and provided step-by-step guidance for earning and keeping the CPM designation.
The second portion of the day was our Industry Resource Exchange Event - a chance to move around the room, meet new faces and network! This year we played networking BINGO to meet new faces and had a good laugh playing Family Feud: Property Managers vs. Industry Partners!
The following new members were installed during this event:
- Katie Oliverio, CPM - IREM 8
- Matthew Taffi, CPM - IREM 8
- Tamar Shaw, ARM - IREM 8
- Jasmine Castro, ARM - IREM 92

The 13th Annual IREM Gala was held on Friday, May 18th and it was yet another glamorous evening filled with good food, good drinks and good company. We once again enjoyed the music provided by the talented band MILLENNIUM! A record number 325 were in attendance for this fabulous evening.
In the past twelve years combined, we have given an unbelievable $586,000 to Special Love for Children with Cancer. This year, we were able to present them with a check for $82,000!
At the event, we were pleased to welcome IREM's 2018 National President, Don Wilkerson, CPM and IREM CEO and Executive Vice President Denise LeDuc-Froemming.

Spread the word that Private Offering Courses are available for your company - groups of 10 or more. This means an instructor comes to your site and holds a class for just your company's employees. The idea is to get a group of people to "fast track" their way to a CPM, ARM, or ACoM designation. The more people in the class, the lower the price per person. For more information on this excellent opportunity, contact the Region 3 Education office at 301.948.6234 or download the Private Offerings Brochure here!
