January 2018 Newsletter Print

President's Report

Greetings Members & Industry Partners of IREM 92:

Please take a few minutes to read through this e-newsletter to catch up on all the events and news happenings within Chapter 92.  This is a bi-monthly publication.

Two words. I’m baaaack!

That’s right, I have returned to serve as your Chapter President for a second term. It’s like a Hollywood sequel you didn’t ask for! But hey, every so often Hollywood puts out a sequel that somehow outperforms and improves on the original. So who knows, maybe this year will be my version of Back to the Future II!

Now for those of you that don’t know me or if you’re new to the chapter, allow me to take the opportunity to tell you a little about myself and my plans for the upcoming year. I work for a commercial real estate investment and management firm called The Premier Companies, where I began my career as an Assistant PM in 2007.

With a little luck and some brownnosing, I ascended to VP of our property management arm, where I now oversee about 20 commercial assets, ranging from medical parks, to office buildings, to shopping strip centers. Around 2010, I became actively involved with IREM and began pursuing my CPM®. After obtaining my CPM® in 2012, I joined the board as a Director and there I was groomed and mentored by a few long-term IREM members that were feeling unusually charitable.

This year I have set a handful of goals for our chapter and I know our dedicated board (and members!) will help lead and carry out those goals. The goals include increasing young professional engagement through a revamping of our student outreach and IYP programs, increasing our social media presence and engagement to reach a wider audience, and enhancing our marketing tools through the making of short marketing videos for social media use and corporate outreach.

For our social media campaign, we will be looking for participation from our membership. Whether you’re a seasoned vet looking to espouse some wisdom or shine light on the value of IREM, or a young professional with some social media savvy interested in helping us older folks navigate the intricacies of social media platforms like SnapFace and InstaBook, we could use your help! If you’re interested in appearing in or helping us create the marketing videos, please contact Jamie Carr at jamie@irem92.org or feel free to contact me directly.

As we kick off the new year, we already have some great stuff planned for the year. That begins with the upcoming annual Industry Forecast and Trade Show scheduled for February 1st at The Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner. Not only is it a great expo and opportunity to network with your industry partners, but it’s your chance to hear four industry expert speakers give their respective economic and real estate market forecasts for 2018. A panel discussion session will then follow – so feel free to come prepared with a few questions! Hurry up and register now if you haven’t already

Next on the schedule is our February Chapter meeting. This will be a lunch meeting and will be held on Thursday, February 8th at Ruth’s Chris Steak House (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!) in Gaithersburg, so mark your calendars and register now! The meeting topic is “Creating A Respectful Workplace: Valuing Diversity & Eliminating Harassment” and the speaker is Sheila Birnbach, President of Bimbach Success Solutions. We tried to book Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, and Bill O’Reilly for the presentation, but for some reason their business managers turned our offer down. Jokes aside, with all the salacious harassment scandals that rocked Hollywood, Washington and the news media last year, we could not think of a more timely and appropriate topic.

Hope to see you all at the Forecast meeting or our next Chapter meeting in February and please do not hesitate to contact me at asantos@premierinvesment.com if I can be of any service to you.

Adam Santos, CPM®
2018 Chapter President
